Marcel

The Taliban has re-taken Afghanistan. When Marcel chooses to let her disabled brother leave the country ahead of her, she has no idea if she will ever see her family again. For a week, she waits at the Kabul Airport, trying to find a way out — and finds herself, instead. As the airport fills with people and the supplies dwindle, she meets an older woman, Qamar, who was forced to give up her singing career in the 1990’s but flowers in the airport, singing to keep people upbeat through spurts of violence and chaos. Marcel, who plays the instruments that her father once built, joins her to form a double act. Together, they remind the thousands of people about to fly into the unknown that not all is lost, if they simply remember the right song. This is the story of how a single week can change a life forever, and how unexpected friendships can teach us who we really are.
