Join ASU’s Center for Science and the Imagination in partnership with Majestic Neighborhood Cinema in Tempe to view Annihilation on the silver screen. This screening is part of a greater film series: The History of the Future, exploring gripping, cinematic visions of the future across the past four decades.
Lena (Natalie Portman), a cellular biologist, is tasked to explore The Shimmer, a mystifying and uncanny area that mutates both the organic and inorganic environment. It appeared after a meteor crashed into a lighthouse 3 years prior. Expeditions have been arranged in order to understand the phenomenon, but all have gone missing with the exception of one, Lena’s husband Kane (Oscar Isaac). Join us and see how Lena and her crew analyze and endure The Shimmer on Wednesday, November 13th at 7PM.
This film will be introduced by Athena Aktipis. Aktipis is an assistant professor within the Department of Psychology and a director of the Cooperation and Conflict Lab as well as a co-director of The Human Generosity Project.
