Stylianos (Stelios) Syropoulos is an Assistant Professor in the School of Sustainability at Arizona State University. There he directs the Intergenerational Decisions and Effective Action (IDEA) Lab. The IDEA lab conducts research which aims to understand the human dimensions of morality, prosociality and sustainability, with a particular focus on our moral obligation to protect future generations. Influenced by his doctoral training in social psychology as well as his postdoctoral training in environmental and moral psychology his work seeks to develop individual and collective interventions that promote prosocial and sustainable actions, decisions and behaviors. He is particularly passionate about the science of intergenerational thinking and has conducted considerable work on the social and moral antecedents and consequences of intergenerationally beneficent decisions.

He has been collaborating with the Center for Science and the Imagination on several projects focusing on how to better train individuals at various points in their lives (students, military veterans) on how to better engage in futures thinking. Stylianos often writes pieces for audiences outside of academia on topics relevant to sustainability and intergenerational thinking (among others). His work has been covered by outlets such as The Boston Globe, NBC News, The Independent, and The Conversation.
